A Social Network Christmas: What If Joseph And Mary Had Facebook?

Social media is shaping the way we make and share meaning. Usually, that takes the form of thinking about how various elements of social media or the larger digital culture can help us share the good news. But from time to time it’s also fun to “look back” and imagine what our forebears would have done with social media. Well, I think I found what I was looking for in “A Social Network Christmas.”

Without wanting to spoil too much, I think my favorite moment was when 23 people “unfriend” Joseph for believing the angel’s message that Mary’s pregnancy was from the Holy Spirit.

Give it a look when you have four minutes; it’s another fun retelling of the Christmas story from Igniter Media, the same folks who put together The Christmas Scale (talented bunch!).

And if you'd like to see another one of my favorites, head on over to check out  “The Digital Story of the Nativity” it's quite fun and unique.

Downloads and DVDs are available at This video is an artistic take on how the story of the nativity might have read had a social network existed at the time of Jesus's birth. Follow this historical period as it unfolds as a digital narrative.
